Nancy’s Grandma’s Apple/Raisin Spice Cake


464 g hot water

330 g raisins

205 g shortening

402 g sugar

6 g salt

4.60 g nutmeg

4.60 g cinnamon

4.60 g cloves

228 g raw apples, roughly chopped or dried apples

512 g flour

9.20 g baking soda

122 g chopped nuts



Mix first 8 ingredients in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil and boil for 3 minutes. Remove from stove and cool completely.

When mixture is cool, add remaining ingredients.  Mix well.

Pour into a 9"x13" pan sprayed with oil. Bake at 350 F for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in middle comes out clean.

Serves 15.
