Strawberry acreage for winter and spring fresh market production has risen substantially in 2022 versus 2021 according to the 2022 Acreage Survey of the California Strawberry Commission. Growers have collectively planted more than ten thousand additional acres this year (with most of that coming in Central Mexico). California has added eighteen hundred additional acres. California strawberry fields had problems in 2021 with plant health in some areas that slowed production. That does not look to be the case this year. Fields look very good, and full production should resume as well. If each area planted this season has good crop production, there will be a lot of fruit to market this year. The potential is there right now for a record breaking year of production in 2022.
