Fresh market volume of strawberry in California has been higher this season so far at better pricing than in 2017. This is happening with less acres planted in the main growing area for this time of year (Oxnard). Some fields were adversely affected by the recent cold weather in Santa Maria, while others, like the Monterey variety in the picture above, were completely untouched by the event. Fresh strawberry production continues to be good in the Oxnard area currently. Growers have been able to avoid diverting fruit to processing channels this year in Oxnard because they have had very favorable weather conditions. It looks at this time like they should be able to plan on good market conditions through Easter.
