California Strawberry April 16, 2018

April 16, 2018 | 1 min read

California strawberry production in the state continues to increase each week. Fresh market volume is still below where it was at this same time last year, and processing volumes continue to be light as well, but the volume of fruit currently on the plants that will be picked in a few weeks looks to be heavy at this time. The increase in production in the state will continue to grow each week from now through the month of May. Fresh market pricing has begun to slide down from the highs of a few weeks ago. It is likely that processed deliveries could pick up significantly in the month of May. Price posting for processed strawberry is underway, but many processors have only listed pricing for juice grade fruit at this time. For those receiving second year Portola variety strawberries (or other #1 grade fruit) pricing is very similar currently to the opening prices of last year.
