California freezer grade strawberry volume YTD through the end of last week is running around forty million pounds behind last year’s volume, and is the lowest YTD volume of the past five years. The fresh market volume for the week before Mother’s Day was the highest it had ever been for any week since 2011. The current state of the fresh market has pushed some growers in Oxnard and Santa Maria toward processing this week. If the fresh market volume remains high, and pricing remains low, more growers will turn there fields to processing, but the volume of fruit so far going to processors this week does not seem extremely large.
