The California strawberry processing markets have been receiving more fruit so far this year than in any of the past ten years. Most of the volume has been generated from the Los Angeles / Orange County / Baja Mexico region with Baja being the largest share of that. The early switch to processing was a function of the poor fresh market these growers experienced in March and early April. The early switch over to processing will have a negative financial impact on these growers since the majority of their revenue is generated off of the fresh market. This would be the third year in a row of poor financial returns for some of these growers.
