Fresh market volume of strawberry in the U.S. is running ahead of last season from Florida, but California and Mexico are nearly the same, according to USDA data listed on the National Berry Report. The first two days of this week saw shipping volumes greater than 1.5 million trays per day for all areas. California made up nearly 1 million trays for each of those days. Prices for fresh market strawberries listed on the report are in the $8 per flat range. This is a low price for this time of year. Some growers in California have begun converting over certain fields to processing. The same is happening in Baja according to industry reports.
