California Stone Fruit Update

March 12, 2015 | 0 min read

Cling peaches in California have past the statewide full bloom date. The official full bloom date was called as March 7. This is a couple of days earlier than last year. The bloom looked full, and weather was very good during most of the period, but some varieties appear to have had a little more of a staggered bloom. This is mostly attributed to poor chill hours in California this year. The apricot crop looks light in many orchards this year as a result of this. It is too soon to say how much fruit will set on cling peach trees, but the fairly good bloom, along with good weather, should help the trees set an average crop.
