California Pear

March 17, 2015 | 0 min read

The pear crop in the Sacramento area is in full bloom this week. The bloom looks average on the Bartlett’s with other varieties looking somewhat heavy in spots. The one occurrence that is a little puzzling is the fact that the Bartlett bloom came out at the same time as the leaves pushed out this year. This is an unusual event, and it could be attributed to the lack of chill hours this past winter. It is too soon to know if this will have an affect on the set of the fruit, but the weather has been near perfect for the bloom this week, and so the chances for a full set are as good as they could be right now.
