California Pear – May 29, 2018

May 29, 2018 | 1 min read

The California pear crop looks to be set very light this year. The original concern about oversupply in the industry has disappeared as the crop continues to get lighter. Most of the second bloom in California has fallen off of the trees. The remaining crop should have good size, but the quantity of pears on the trees appears to be very light. The official estimate will be out in two weeks. It looks as if all of the districts in the state have a smaller crop this year. There is a considerable amount of blight hitting pear orchards this year as well. The Sacramento area is also experiencing a much smaller cherry harvest. The estimate looks to be three million boxes or less this year of cherries in California.
