California Pear 5-25-2016

The California pear crop appears to be sizing well. The cooler weather of late has helped the crop along, but it is still expected that California will be off in total tonnage by 10% compared to last season. The official estimate from the industry will be out in a few weeks. Pear orchards in Sacramento and in the north districts should be close in harvest timing to last year. The pear crop in California has not been adversely affected with hail damage as the processing peach crop has.
