Blueberry production in the Pacific Northwest has nearly doubled in the last 5 years. The biggest growth has been in Washington state where production has more than doubled from 42 million pounds in 2010 to 90 million in 2014. Oregon and British Columbia have seen big increases as well, but at a slower rate than Washington. Planted Acreage in Washington in 2009 was 4,800 acres, and in 2014 it increased to 9,100 acres. Even with all of the growth in production and acreage, the blueberry market has remained fairly stable the last 5 years. About 55% of this production goes to the fresh market, and about 30-35% goes into IQF packs. While pricing has remained stable in both the fresh and IQF markets, juice and puree grade pricing has plummeted to record low numbers due to over supply. The industry is also seeing record numbers in cold storage reports for processor grade fruit.
