The recent USDA Cold Storage Report numbers show that the inventory of frozen strawberry in 2018 is smaller in every category versus 2017 volume numbers. The inventory numbers should continue to decrease in the current month as well since the processing strawberry crop is behind in volume (see previous blog). The level of inventory should move closer to the lower volume numbers of 2016 by the end of the month of March. The volume of graded strawberry going to California processors will most likely stay small until near the end of the month of April or the beginning of May.
