The USDA Cold Storage report for December showed frozen strawberry inventory to be much lower at the end of the season in 2014 than it has been in the past five years. Every category of frozen strawberries showed lower volumes. The last time inventory levels were this low was in 2006, but the volume of fruit going into the system this year was greater than in 2006. The consumption of frozen strawberries has increased in 2014 over the past five years. Current cold storage inventory numbers could signal heavy demand for strawberries at the beginning of the fruit season this year.
