California is experiencing another very dry year. Reservoir levels, as reported by the California Department of Water Resources, are currently less than 50% capacity. The wet weather in December yielded to a warm and dry pattern for most of January. Chill hours needed for deciduous tree fruit production in the San Joaquin Valley are the lowest they have been in 20 years. January and February can be two of the wettest and coldest months. The weather for most of the month of January has not been that way. February will need to be very wet or the state will be in for another drought year. The affects of the drought in 2014 turned out costing the state more than two billion dollars by some estimates.
