The recent cold weather events in California have had an impact around the state which varies from area to area and crop to crop. Strawberry production in the central and northern areas of the state have been slowed by the cold weather. The southern area of the state has been unaffected by recent weather events. Prior to the frost events the north strawberry growing areas were developing fruit quickly due to above normal temperatures. There was some concern that all of the districts in the state would start producing heavier volumes of fruit than what the market would take for this time of year. After the frost event some fields were so damaged that they will now need a little time to recover, and the gap will provide a more average spread of timing between the three main strawberry growing districts in California.
