California has had a reduction in acreage planted in the fall of 2022 for harvest in 2023 due to severe weather. Current estimates published by the California Strawberry Commission show that as many as 1,840 acres may be damaged by the rain events that happened in January. Overall acreage will be less than last year but above the past three years. With good growing conditions in 2023 there should still be enough strawberries to fill fresh and processing market demand.
