The California Strawberry Commission 2015 Acreage Survey was recently released. It shows that California strawberry growers have reduced their fall plantings by nearly 2,000 acres statewide versus the previous year. This is the lowest acreage since 2008. Southern California acreage declined by nearly 900 acres, Santa Maria by over 500 acres, and Watsonville / Salinas by 500 acres. Labor shortages and water related issues forced this decline. This decline in acreage should have a noticeable impact on strawberry volume in 2015.
