The California Pear Advisory Board set the estimate for the Bartlett pear crop at just over 159,000 tons in 2015. This amounts to 17,000 tons more than in 2014. The high demand from the canneries for fruit this year (with the high price being offered) should move more fruit into canned usage with less being sent to fresh. The amount that could end up in a bin for other uses could contract this year as well.
