Fresh strawberry movement through the month of January has been much slower this season than in the previous two years. The combination of cool wet weather in California, along with excess heat in Florida, and a general reduction in acres, has contributed to much less fruit being sent to market so far this year. The above information comes from the California Strawberry Commission. USDA is also reporting that fresh market FOB pricing is nearly twice what it was at this same time last year.
