The fresh market movement of strawberry has started off slower this year even with increased acreage in each of the districts that grow and ship strawberry. The slower movement has kept pricing high for fresh market fruit. The high prices are not uncommon for this time of year, but the smaller volumes are keeping the pressure up on pricing. The slower start can be attributed to factors with plant diseases in some areas and weather problems in others. It seems that this trend will continue for at least the next few weeks. The areas that grow and ship strawberry this time of year do not seem to be getting any closer to having larger volumes than they already have.
