The California Pear Advisory Board has put out an estimate for California Bartlett pears that has the crop set close to the volume harvested in 2015, but on less acreage than two years ago. The crop is set heavy in many orchards in the state. The volume estimated is expected to have more fruit packed for the fresh market this year since the cannery demand appears to be lower for Bartlett pears than is has been in the past two years. The large crop on the trees will also likely mean smaller fruit size overall. The harvest is expected to start much later than it did in 2016.
