The consumption report published by the Processing Strawberry Advisory
Board of California shows that 2014 had the highest amount of
consumption of frozen strawberries of any of the past five years. The
total of more than 721 million pounds is a new record for consumption.
The next closest year was 2010. The affect on cold storage inventory, as
published by USDA, shows that total strawberry frozen inventory is now
as low as it was in 2006, however the total volume of frozen strawberry
being carried in pails is much lower this year than in any of the past
ten years. Competition for fruit should be strong when the processing
season begins this year.
