The processing crop in California is off to a slower start compared to
last year and the year before. The fresh market price is currently very
strong, and it looks to be so for the next few weeks. There has been
less than fifty million pounds sent to the freezers so far this year,
and much of that has originated in Baja, Mexico. It doesn't look like
California growers will contribute much fruit to the freezer until after
Mother's Day, and it could be well after that if the fresh market
remains strong.
